What Are Seizure Monitoring Devices?

A Seizure monitor, also known as a Seizure Alert or Seizure Detect, is an electronic device that detects seizures in those with conditions such as epilepsy. Once detected, the device will alert a caretaker, medical staff, or an ambulance to your location.

These devices utilize motion sensors to detect seizures during sleep. When abnormal movements are detected by the device, such as sudden shaking, the alarm will emit a loud sound, alerting immediate help. The mattress devices will oftentimes vary in design as some will have remote monitoring, adjustable sensitivity, or integrate with other systems for added convenience.

Camera Devices

Seizure-detecting video monitors utilize cameras and specialized software to monitor individuals with epilepsy. These devices record audio and analyze video footage for abnormal patterns indicative of seizures. The cameras are often placed in bedrooms and living spaces. Once a seizure is detected, an alarm is set out for caregivers or healthcare professionals in real-time. Many of these devices may have adjustable sensitivity and can integrate with other alert devices.
